Daniel's rankings charge continues

Daniel Erickson's first American racing campaign ended a month ago, but his charge up the eFormulaCarNews.com driver rankings has continued unabated. The young Sydney driver advanced 45 positions to 15th with 9854 points in the September edition of the unique rankings, which rate drivers contesting USA 'development' openwheel championships.

Daniel's win in the final round of the F2000 Championship Series, at Mid-Ohio on September 5, was a major factor in his latest rankings rise. It followed his massive 81-position leap in August, and put him 33 placings and 647 points ahead of the next driver who has contested the same number of races (10) in the preceding 12 months.

Significantly, he averaged more ranking points per race (985.4) than any other driver in the top 20 - including the two drivers who finished ahead of him in the F2000 Championship Series, 2010 champion Victor Carbone (715.07) and runner-up Cole Morgan (712.0). Carbone and Morgan competed in all 14 rounds of the championship, four more than Daniel, who only had sufficient funds for a partial challenge.

With F2000 Championship Series race wins worth more than 1000 ranking points each, and September leader Conor Daly only 541 points ahead of Daniel in September's list, the Australian Motor Sport Foundation International Rising Star almost certainly would have been way ahead of the pack if he had been able to race in every round.

Commenting on his rapid ascent, Daniel said, "I'm stoked to be up to 15th. Now that the F2000 Championship Series is finished it makes me realise how good a year it has been, especially taking into account those four races I had to miss.

"A lot of the credit goes to my family and supporters, who made my first American racing series possible. Thanks also to Jon and Brad Baytos of Primus Racing for their assistance and guidance every step along the way."

Now back in Australia, Daniel is working on raising the funds for the next stage of his racing career.
