July 3, 2009: Pinged by the 'video ref'

Daniel Erickson has vowed to put his belated disqualification from Round 7 of the British Formula Ford Championship behind him, and get on with racing.

At a stewards’ enquiry yesterday (July 3) following practice sessions for this weekend's championship rounds at Snetterton, race officials penalised the CAMS International Rising Star driver for overtaking another car while yellow flags were being waved in the race at Knockhill on June 14.

The enquiry was instigated following a review of the official videos of the three BFFC races held at the Scottish circuit.

The corner marshals hadn’t reported any rule infraction, and the other driver involved didn’t protest the results, but Daniel’s ‘not guilty’ plea fell on deaf ears.

I told them that I saw yellow flags being waved on the previous lap, then on the next lap I didn’t see them so I made the move," he said. "But they told me that yellow flags were waving at the time.

“Obviously I wouldn’t have overtaken intentionally when the yellow flags were waving, because I’m well aware of the consequences.”

Although the disqualification has cost Daniel his third place points from the race, he won’t lodge an appeal.

“I’ve been in motorsport long enough to realise that things like this happen sometimes,” he said.

“Realistically I can’t overturn the decision, so there’s no point dwelling on it. I’ll just focus on racing and improving my championship position.”
