On-again American campaign away to a promising start

After two months sitting on the sidelines, Daniel Erickson is off to a promising start in his return to the American F2000 Championship Series at Watkins Glen International. Having arrived in New York State yesterday, Daniel put in a solid day's work driving the Primus/Quantum Racing Van Diemen in today's two 45-minute sessions.

"In the first session I was just getting used to the car and the track, which are both new to me," he said. "Then in the second session we concentrated on getting the set-up right, especially on worn tyres. We didn't put on a new set of rubber all day."

Daniel added that with no official lap timing he couldn't be certain where he stood compared to the other drivers.

"There were something like 30 cars and a lot of pitlane activity, which made it hard to keep track of who was doing what. Also, Victor Carbone (the series pointscore leader) didn't run today, apparently because of flight problems from Brazil, and he's the benchmark.

"But lap times don't mean a lot at this stage. Overall the team was happy with how the day went. It won't be until the two official (ie. timed) practice sessions tomorrow when we'll get some idea of where we stand."

At 5.5km (3.4 Miles), Watkins Glen International is one of the world's best known road racing circuits.
